bruised heel, is there anything I can do?

So we had an amazing ride and were completely working from behind, stretching down, free through the back..... and Primo clips his front foot. Now he had bellboots on so he didn't tear anything open, but it left a very sore spot. I've been hosing him, but it's def tender. A side note- Primo is a big baby and swears he's dying when he gets a cut. Essentially he's sound, but he's not working comfortably. Other than hosing is there anything I can do to help him along? The only good thing I can think of is that we don't have any major competitions till Sept so he can enjoy some time off.
