heya !!!!!

can anyone give me any advice, my horse has got bit of a sore eye, any remedies on what would be the best thing to use on his eye or to rub on it, i think he might have got something caught into it like some hay as it was fine this morning, but was just curious...

Thank you....

Use your own judgment. Is it in the eye? or around the eye?

The most I would do is saline solution in the eye.
I wouldn't mess with it other than that, and if it doesn't clear up in a couple days... call a vet.

If it clouds up, call a vet asap. That's a sign of blindness from an injury.

I just got done w/an eye injury on my mare-took her to the vet twice,I used 3 different medications on her, but her vision is at or nearly 100%. It did cost a few hundred dollars, but I am happy w/the results-the vet said ride her & we went out today~she did great, except for the few bucks she threw in, but it has been awhile since we've been out.

I looked at the eye this morning and he had it half opened, it is not directly the eye think he has got something caught in it and just scratched the surface of the eyelid, i took him for a walk this morning and he opened it fully so i went and bought some golden eye drops but am not gonna use them unless it gets worse haven't done anything with them this morning

As was said before, the eye is not something to fool with. Last year I had a horse that had a "minor" eye injury and had the vet out. He administered drops and a salve then I had to do it myself 3x per day for the next week.

Long and short of it is that if I hadn't called the vet, he is convinced that the injury would have eventually cause the eye to be removed - or at least gone blind. My point is that what seemed minor, certainly wasn't. I would stop trying to ask people on a forum about treatment and get professional help.

BTW, I try to do as much work with my horses as possible - trying to avoid a vet whenever possible ... but there are some things that only a vet should be called in for, and the eye is certainly one of them.

Agree that you should call the vet. If you think the horse scratched the inside of his eyelid then it is almost certain that it also scratched the eyeball. If the eyelid isn't fully open then there's something going on. Look at the eyelashes from the front, on both eyes - they should be perfectly symmetrical, sticking out from the face at the same angle. The number of wrinkles in the eyelid and around the eye should be the same. If they're not symmetrical, or if there is oozing or tears, you should call the vet.

Never ever put anything into an eye until you know what the problem is. The eye should be stained to check for a scratch or tear. A vet needs to do this so they can prescribe the best treatment.
Using a steroid or an antibiotic eye ointment at the wrong time can spell disaster as can waiting too long to treat.
