Chaff in eye!!!

A friends mare got a piece of chaff in her eye,so she called the vet. The vet came out and fixed it up. Now the horse has to have bra over her eye to keep the light out. The vet said that if any light gets in he willl have to SEW THE EYE SHUT!!!!! OMG poor horse. He also said if she hadn't of called imediatly the horse would be blind in that eye!
Another reason to dampen feeds! Although it doesnt help when the horse snorts and the chaff goes everywhere, but hey

Thats awful! Poor baby. I had a horse scratch her cornia with something (never did discover what) the vet just gave me some sort of steroid drops to put in it but no cover. I know it looked terrible all swollen and draining. She recovered, same horse stuck her nose into some red ants and got bit all over her face and neck antihystamine shot saved the day on that one. She was always sticking her nose someplace it didn't belong :)

We washed the eye with the tea and dropped the honey in when my baby had issues with the eye. She surely didn't like it, but recovered in couple days.
