Coat pros and cons

Just wondering, what are the benefits of a white coat vs. a black one in summer? Would a black horse get significantly hotter?

A black horse may get sun bleached.

I've always wondered about that!

All I know is that summer is horrible for horses with large white markings on their faces, what with the sunburn.

I have a black and white pinto and his black spots will feel hot and his white spots will feel cooler in the summer. That's not science, but that is what I have observed =]

Yes, black critters get hotter. Black Angus are more popular than the less known Red Angus, but Reds are far less likely to overheat. Se breed, different color.
