Coat supplements?

Is it best to start feeding any coat supplements now during the winter before their new coat grows in? Dusty was a horrific sunbleached grossness last year, much different than how he normally looks. All the other horses coats were fried too..

Another weird thing...his dorsal is normally deep brown. It was white towards the fall O.o like, lighter than the rest of his coat!
