Cold late night arrival of new horse...on the way

My husband is on the way home in 30 degree cold with a horse for me..my first in 15 years....I'm worried he's going to get chilled...they had a flat on the side of the highway that took a while to fix...he gave Cherokee some hay and later an apple and he seems nervous but ok....He's 4 years old, a bay gelding with a blue eye..I have a stall ready for him and water and hay....but I"M NERVOUS....it'll be 11 pm before they get here....any suggestions in making my new horse comfortable???

If he's sweating when he gets off the trailer, take away the water until he dries off. You can never be too careful. Watch his hay consumption if you are unsure of what he's used to as overeating is not something you want to deal with. I'd resist the urge to want to play with him too much, and just let him get used to the stall, eat if he wants and sleep. He'll be tired.
