Companion Animal

I have a 9yr old Paint Mare & recently moved her too a place all by herself .... I am wanting to get a companion animal (preferably a horse since she has a major fear of farm animals such as cows) but am struggling on whether to get a mare or gelding!! I personally have no preference between the two sexes but am wondering which would be better for my mare as they will be stalled / pastured together. My mare is very sweet but DOES NOT like to share food (so during feeding time they will be separated)!! .... What is your opinion (mare or gelding) ??

I think it's more to do with the horses personality than their gender. I'd focus more on finding something really laid back and easy going than worrying about the gender.

Agreed :)...ler her maintain her alpha mare status. An older horse might be your best bet, one that is healthy (as one can be with age) or needs a nice place to retire. Obviously if you want another riding horse, the second option isn't the best :)

Ponies also tend to make good companions but they can have their own attitude issues.
