Cosequin ASU...everything it says it is? are there alternatives?

I had a visit with my vet yesterday. It turns out that my 10year old mare has mild fetlock effusions in the front and moderate fetlock and hock effusions in the back. She suspects that my mare has arthritis :-/ She suggested getting her started on Cosequin ASU or Adequan injections....seeing as the injections are $600 every 6months, I've decided to try the oral supplement(Cosequin ASU). It is still rather expensive, but if it is everything that people say it is, I will most certainly get her started on it without a second thought.

SO, is Cosequin ASU the best? Or is there another joint supplement that compares to Cosequin, but a little cheaper?

Thank you!

My vet just told me to put my mare on cosequin as well because (as she says) is the best joint supplement out there scientifically.
