usually when the blow an abscess you can find the drainage. It would make sense though if he bruised his hoof or had an abscess come on and then blew it, drained it, sealed it, and it came back (since he's been lame off and on).

That's kind of where the soaking with Epsom salt comes in. You want to keep it soft and open so that it can completely drain or it's going to become an on going issue. Ichthomal would be helpful in this instant as well, to help pull all the yucky stuff out.

So then I'll just keep soaking his foot until maybe... Monday? Just to make sure everything is gone?

So we kept soaking his foot and nothing changed. We had the vet out today to take X-rays. When the vet got there we rode him, lunged him, trotted him on hard ground and flexed him- He decided to go perfectly sound for the vet, so no pictures were taken. I took him out for a trail ride and he stayed sound the whole time. The vet did find so fluid in his knee and a thicker tendon on the lame leg, but said it wasn't anything to worry about.

He'd been sound for about a week and then he was lame when ridden for a little bit longer the next week. Between the lameness vet and the farrier we have decided it's most likely navicular. He will be getting bar shoes, but any other suggestions are welcome.
