Cradle cap

Hey~ I was just wondering if horses could get cradle cap? My horse has a patch of dry skin on the inside of his elbow on both sides. One side is worse than the other but it doesn't seem to be spreading. It's a dry patch but the hair is grown over top and there's white flakes of dead skin coming off from the area. My mom came out and thinks it might be cradle cap. I'm going to have the vet check it, but until I can get them to come out I was wondering if anyone else has or had this on their horse or might even be able to tell me if horses can get cradle cap and if not what might be the cause? Just for a better idea. Thank you~ Ki

Your going to have the vet out just for that? .....Get something like Physoderm give it a good wash and dry then apply some zinc or tea tree oil and check it in a few days.

I was going to have the vet come and float his teeth and remove his wolf teeth so if it wasn't any better I was going to have her check them at the same time, but I am a worry wort and would probably call if it didn't get any better (He was a rescue so I'd just want to make sure it wasn't anything too sever or anything that could pose a problem later.). My horses have that too, as well as similar patches above their hock joints.

I always assumed it was from them getting on and off the ground. Like a callous. I've never worried about it at all, except for my foal who started getting sores near his hock joints from getting on and off the ground. So I put straw down in his favorite sleeping area and they seem to be healing up now.

I've never heard of "cradle cap."
