A girl I used to ride with had a little arabian that got caught in the barbing of a fence one night on his shoulder and leg. It was so deep he had skin grafts the whole nine yards. He has since then healed and is in perfect condition with minimal scaring. This took a ton of vet visits money time and xrays. Poor little guy.

Your horse is an extension of you.
