Unhappy Cut in the frog?

Hi, recently my horse got a little itty-bitty peice of glass in his frog, we got all of it out... but he got lame from it, I understood that so I was giving him Bute and soaking his foot and putting KopperKare on it. It has been about a week since he has been lame and there are little to no improvements on his lame-ness and he still limps on it like there is a huge peice of glass in his frog still. I have the farrier coming out sometime this week but I don't think he can do anything for my horse.. Someone help? Is there anythingn I can put on it/do to it to make it better?

Have you called out your vet to come and have a look at him? If not, I would say to do that immediately.

Our TWH got a tiny nail stuck in his foot when we moved him to a different pasture and he limped for about a week from it. But we'd also called out the vet as soon as we noticed and had him on antibiotics and pain relievers.

I would definitely say to call the vet to check him out, maybe there is still some of the glass in there or he is just likely tender from the sore and could be an abcess? Just guesses, but yeah I would say call a vet ASAP.

The frog is probably bruised, it can take a little while for them to heal. I would have the vet check it out just in case.

I don't know how you would confirm whether or not there is another piece of glass in there or not. It doesn't have to be huge -- could be a tiny thing just in the wrong place. If you've ever had a glass sliver in just the wrong place yourself, you'd understand.

I think I would look at having a vet come out as well. Perhaps the vet would be able to flush out the initial cut area and wash out anything that might be there. However, after a whole week, that may involve some cutting to open up the area again. :( That's all I can think of. Sorry.

After a week with no improvement, I think your horse needs a helping hand. Good luck.
