Has it been especially dry in your area lately? My horse was having the same problem because we hadn't had any rain in about a month. But now we're on the tail end of a week straight of downpours and I haven't heard her cough once.

You didn't give much detail so it's hard to say anything.
The thing is with horses, something like a cough can be anything from dust to death. That panics most of us right off our rockers. Are the horses running fevers? Are there any other symptoms? How long have they had it, how deep or shallow is it. Is the feed dusty? Could they have a cold? There are about a million things it could be and without more information it's impossible to even speculate.

My horse started coughing once it got warm in my area. I tried AniHist for him, but it did absolutely nothing and the cough continued to worsen. After having my vet check him out and talking it over with her, I stopped the AniHist and switched to Cough Free and watering his hay. He stopped coughing almost entirely within 3 days

ETA: 99.9% sure it was allergies in my horse's case.

I know and that's just the thing, my horse had a dry cough and we went through all kinds of sillyness before realizing he just had a stupid cold. The QH had the cold first but his symptoms were completely different than the Appy. In one the symptoms were runny nose type stuff and it was pretty mild. Fast forward a week or so later and the appy starts coughing up a dry lung! It honestly wasn't until I saw him hack out some unchewed hay before it dawned on me that I'd seen the QH do the same thing a couple weeks earlier. Of course this was after all kinds of anxious research hours and small animal sacrifices to the gods of good horse health.
