Ear Infections

I think my horse has an ear infection but am not sure how to tell or how to treat it. She is shaking her head a lot, rubbing on posts and is irritated. Would it be reasonable for me use ear drops on her?

No, that needs vet attention, might not be an infection, vet has to look in the ear canal.
