EPM Horse cannot eat..suggestions?

My 12 yr old TW recently came down with EPM (again 3rd time). We gave full tube of Marquis 48 hrs ago..major kill..swollen mandible lymph nodes..today IV push 12 liters water. Not really dehydrated but would get there. Problem now is it seems he has forgotten what to do with his tongue..he cannot swallow food. He makes a feeble attempt but to no avail. He is of good flesh and muscle tone but being a Mom it is hard not to see him eat anything. I was paste syringing water mixed with apple sauce to try and get his swallow reflex working...doesn't look good.
Any suggestions? Maybe just some time? How long can he go?Thank you for your response!

I'm very sorry to hear about your boy and this most recent bout with EPM.

What has your vet said about his long term prognosis? It sounds dire that he can't use his tongue or swallowing reflex.

I would give him 24 hours, constantly offering food/water. If he still doesn't improve, the vet will have to be called.

I am sorry to hear this. EPM is terribly tragic.

EPM Horse

My lil buddy, Rio died this morning. He was down in the pasture when I went out early and tried many times to rise but could not get up. My Vet helped him to horse heaven. I will miss him dearly. My other horse is standing in the spot where he died and has been calling out for him all morning.

My deepest condolences.

My gray called for my heart horse for several weeks after he was put down. It tears you up to hear it, but he will eventually stop.
