Feed to Bloom a Weanling....Questions

My colt is 3 1/2 months old and will be ready to wean about the end of August. He is AQHA registered, chestnut color, big for his age. He has shed about 60% of the baby fuzz.

What feeds are out there that could bloom this colt for possible shows this fall? About how long will it take to bloom him?

It has been a long time, but I have fed 'Equine Junior' (Purina) in the past. However, the feed dealer said that he sells more 'Strategy' to people that are blooming out their weanlings.

It would be hard for me to feed the mare and colt the same feed as the mare cannot handle high energy feeds. She is on straight oats and grass pasture with limited grazing.
