    Feed Change

Chili's previous owners had her on pasture and round bales (free feeding) with 4 other horses in the field with 2 scoops of corn/grain/hay mixture a day (one in the morning/one at night).

    She's fat.

My friend feeds her horse 2 flakes and one scoop of grain 2x's a day and that's what we have started for Chili. Is this too much of a change for her? She's being kept in a stall right now bc the "pasture" isn't much and there is alot of mud. My friend keeps her horse stalled bc she's had a horse almost break a leg in the mud and doesn't want him out in it. I agree. I'm going to be out there 1-2x's a day to feed/clean her stall and will be either lunging or lightly riding her in the round pen during the winter (except on really warm days, when I might take her for an actual ride), to make sure she doesn't get any fatter over the winter! Any ideas/suggestions??

What I do anytime I switch food I do it slowly over about two weeks or so. I'll gradually switch the feed so they won't get sick or colicy. I'll gradually feed more of the newer feed so their gut can get used to it..
