Feeding fish oil?

I'm thinking of giving my horse cod liver oil in the regular feed and I was wondering if anyone else had tried this? I've heard great things about it, including it's benefits to joints, immune system, coat/hooves, and works that it words as an anti-inflamitory, however I'd love to hear from someone that has actually used it.

TheHorse.com link only talks about using cod liver oil as a hoof dressing.

Use your own judgement but, if it were me, I would not feed Cod Liver Oil to a horse. I feed flax, which is a safe "horse approved" product and I get the healthy, shiny hooves and coat the OP is looking for:)
I also feed flax, and have for 15 years. I recommend this also...

I wouldn't feed fish oil to a horse since it's an animal product and therefore not in a horse's natural diet. If I wanted to up the O3s in my horse's diet I would give something that is plant based like flaxseed.

I do the same with my Labs. Since flaxseed isn't something natural in a dog's diet, I feed them fish based O3s like sardines in a can or fish oil.

I will not give Cod Liver oil to my dogs since the liver is where all the toxins are processed.
