Feeding my horse? Is grass okay?

I usually give my horse one third of a bucket of horse feed twice a week but he seems big enough as it is so he is just living on grass. I ride him about twice a week is it okay to live on grass?

Yes, like mell said he should be fine living on grass as long as there is plenty of it. Also if you start riding him more and doing harder riding he may need extra feed but as he is not at the moment you don't need to worry.
I've had horses that have lived their whole lives on nothing but grass most of the time.
With the drought lately not many people have any grass to feed their horses so if you got it USE it! Hay and feed are too expensive to buy if you don't have to!

Yes there is plenty of long grass in the paddocks. In winter I feed him hay.

When there is grass on the ground that is the only thing that our horses live off of. It is what is best for them. All of our pastures are organic so our horses body's are not getting infested with chemicals which are in feeds (ie, apple treats, sweet feed)

Grass is the best option for your horse.

I'm new to horse ownership, but I know for our cattle and goats, they need free choice minerals. Do horses need them too? If so, what kind and more in summer or winter or all year.
Also, how many times a day do you give them hay in the winter when the ground is totally snow covered?

I feed my horses twice a day. Usually about half a square bale to each horse, I make sure they always have warm water, and yes they have free choice minerals. But be sure to buy minerals that are not "enhanced" with chemicals. Living on the diet all of my horses are rather chubby, other then my appendix mare.
