So my horse has been knocking her hind fetlocks against one another. I'm having the farrier out, but in the meantime, does anybody have any ideas of what to put on her fetlocks to prevent them from injury out in the pasture? Thanks.
They make doughnut boots specifically for this. They are big rubber rings that go on their pasterns so they knock together before the legs can make contact.
Otherwise there are some boots that you can turn out in. Woofs come to mind, but I've never turned out in boots. In a pinch I guess you could do standing wraps if she's contained and for short periods.
Ankle boots.... Yes, correctly fitted boots are very safe to be turned out in...
You need your farrier to do their magic if he can to stop the forging.
Make darn sure the farrier knows it is happening, when it is happening and if it is when she is ridden only or all the time....makes a difference.
Boots something like this will stop the hit from cutting the skin, BUT you need the farrier to make corrections in their shoeing.
Till the forging is corrected by trimming adjustments by the farrier, the horse wears the boots anytime you ride, turnout....except when the horse is in their stall, the boots go on to protect the flesh!! http://www.statelinetack.com/item/tough-1-no-turn-shin-ankle-boot/E015794/ Woof Pro Fetlock Boots | Dover Saddlery :runninghorse2:....
Sounds like a hip/pelvis issue & chiropractic treatment or cranio sacral would be my first choice.
