Flax/rice bran oil?

What is everyone's thoughts on Flax seed/Rice bran oil? It comes in a gallon jug for a fairly reasonable price. I would like my mare to put on a little more weight yet and she already gets 4 lbs per feeding of Safechoice, so I don't want to add more grain or food. I feel oil can give those extra calories without her feeling like she's eating so much it's going to come out her nose.

I plan on picking some up tonight and was just wondering what everyone thought about it.

Ps: I have talked this over with my vet and he said I may have to try different things with her until I find what works best.

Its a good option.

You could also try adding beet pulp. Or calf-manna.

Make sure she's getting enough hay.

I would add beet pulp but I can only get two feedings in per day and I don't want to put too much in one feeding.

She also never finishes her hay anymore, we think she's finally 'full'. She gets fed at least 20 lbs hay per day and she's only about 800 lbs but she doesn't finish it all.

I use Triple Crown senior along with their rice oil and it works well for my seventeen year old arab.

Thank you, I'm hoping this does the trick for those last few pounds.
