I had trouble finding flax at the feed store. It was either ground ( and getting rancid) or they only ordered it one certain days because there wasn't enough demand. I ended up finding it at a bulk grocery food store and its human grade, 20 lbs for $20, which was cheaper than ordering it at the feed store.

Do you need to keep it in airtight containers if its whole seed?

Yes, keep it in sealed or airtight containers if you can, just like any other food it will start going stale if the air and moisture have their way

I did try water and even applesauce he picked out all the pieces with it "stuck" to it. Kinda made me giggle! Mind you he eats in about 5 seconds flat so how the heck he picks these little pieces out is beyond me!

I don't find grinding inconvenient, only takes a minute more and he eats it, so it is worth it!

And he's a Percheron? How the heck does he use those big old lips in such a dainty fashion!!! I do believe if I tried to pick the seeds out I would be unsuccessful!!!!! Indeed!!!

I love watching him eat, he takes those big lips and uses them almost like a trunk to move his food all around. It amazes me somedays how talented he is.
