I was just wondering if horses could get fleas? And if so, how would you treat them? I was thinking of this last night, because a lot of people at my barn bring dogs and if they carried fleas maybe my horse could get it too.

Thank you!

Horses don't get fleas. They can get ticks, but they don't get fleas.

It has something to do with their body temperature not being within a flea's range of palatability, I believe. People, dogs, and cats get fleas, but horses don't.

You're welcome. So no, you don't need to worry about getting your horse a flea collar!

Yep, no fleas. It doesn't have to do with body temperature though. Dogs and cats can normally have a body temp. Up to 102 degrees.
