Gave strangles shot and now horse is very sore??

Hi everyone,
My new horse was given her strangles shot in the neck two days ago and today I rode her and her back end seemed very sore and her canter seemed to hurt her. She wouldn't stay in it. So I got off her and lunged her around and it seemed like her back end was stiff and sore. She also wouldn't flex her neck very well. Could this be from the strangles shot? She has never taken a sore step in the 6 months I have had her.

It is not unusual to have swelling around the Injection Site, occasionally a reaction can occur with a lot of swelling in the Neck, having a sore back, that is something I have not heard of.
I would ask your Vet about it.

Mudpie reacted to every vaccine he was given, except for the strangles one. He had big knots on either side of his neck, at the injection site. I called the vet and he told me that as long as Mudpie could eat and drink comfortably, to let it work itself out. He said that if it went to far, to put ichthammol in the center of it. I gave Mudpie a week off, and in that week the reaction worked itself out, and he was completely fine after a week! :)

Call your vet, to see what he or she says. ;)

I love you, Mudpie!

Thank you both for the replies! I called my vet but no answer. If anyone else has had a similar experience, I'd love to hear!
