Geldings and their sheath?

Hi, I have a 16 yr old belgium, and he is always hanging. Someone told me he does that because he has a pit in his sheath. I have never heard of that. If that is correct, how do you get it out?

When was the last time it was cleaned? You should or have the vet clean it at least once a year.

Your Belgian (not Belgium; Belgium is the country where the breed originated) needs his sheath cleaned at least once a year. Some need it cleaned more often, but once a year is the bare minimum.

If he has a bean (not a pit) it can affect his ability to urinate properly, which can lead to infection.

One word of caution; if you've never cleaned a sheath before, either have the vet do it or someone experienced with geldings. You're liable to get your head kicked off otherwise.

I've got a mustang who spends a lot of time 'dropped'. Not dirty, so I guess he likes the way it feels.

I do clean his sheath once a month. I guess he's like a typical, he likes the way it feels. LOL
