General Question

Hey everyone! I just joined the forum, and had a general question about horses; I plan on buying a ranch for me and a horse (the horse is for recreation, for me). Would 1-2 acres be sufficient enough space for him? The plan is to get everything custom made, so on the left of the property, about 500ft in, will be my house. And on the right, will be a large fenced area and shack for the horse. He will get more than 220 400 sq ft. of space (380 ft x 580), including an accesible shelter for him, (about 20ft. x 20ft.) I would really appreciate some advice, Thanks

Nikki :)

i think that would be pretty good size. But also think about this, do the fields have alot of good grass? and when it rains does water build up in certin areas and get the field gross and muddy? Cause thats not very good, your sheds in the field are good, and a small barn is good to, but fields are important to.

but other than that it seems great! Good Luck

Try to place everything so that it drains well during the rainy season. The last thing you want is a horse walking around in mud up to his knees without a way to escape it. Sounds liek it should be enough space for him, but the grass probably won't last long so be prepared to feed hay instead.

No your right the grass won't last long. I have my 2 horses on about 2 acres and I feed alot of hay during the summer but they seem to be happy and healthy.
