Gibson is leaving me today

He colicked a few days ago, and today his gut ruptured. He is currently in shock, dehydrated, massive internal bleeding. He stands 2 feet from me, bundled up in a blanket, as we wait for the vet.

He was bought for my horse Mason 2 years ago. Mason died a year ago this summer. Gibson was there by his side to the end. Since Mason died, Gibson started dropping weight, lost his sparkle and his everything.

Now he stands before me, dying and there's nothing I can do. I always felt so safe on him and I can do nothing but end his pain now.

I guess I just need some support. Never take a horse for granted. This is a horse that my bf's 10 year old daughter could trust her life with. He's done so much for me.

Its so hard to sit here and not be able to do anything. Why does it have to end so horrible for such a sweet animal. He will be with Mason soon, and he's had an amazing few years with me.

I'm so sorry for your pain. Losing a good horse anywhere is horrible, but being that close to one is tragic. My riding school has lost some amazing horses this year and its heart breaking.

I'm very sorry to hear about Gibson.
However, you are doing the best thing for him. I'm glad that you are strong enough to let him go.
Mason will keep and eye on him now.
