Grain for a hot horse?

I own an OTTB 7 yr old mare. She's a pretty hot horse when being ridden. Currently, she is getting one scoop of Omolene 200 twice a day. It's what she's always been fed before I even owned her.

I want to feed her half omolene and half simple grain for her meals. What should I give to her? I need something that can keep her weight on without changing her amount of feed she gets.

I would go to a grain free or low grain formula trying to remove all the sugar and straches from her feed

I woudl put her on a ration balancer or complete vitamin mineral supplement and replace the rest of her feed with beet pulp and other non grians forage type product to up her calories

Therefore providing her with a cooler form of energy

Yes it might be higher portien but lower carbs

Agree w/ PeggySue.

I would go w/ beet pulp, possibly a bit of alfalfa pellet, some corn/vegetable oil, and a vitamin/mineral supplement.

I had a really bad experience w/ omolene 200 making a couple of horses bonkers in the past. I'm sure she'll settle down, while still maintaining her weight, if you switch her off it

My horse can also be a hot horse. I use Ultium. Sweet Feed makes Blu crazy lol.

I was going to suggest Ultium as well. It's higher fat and lower sugar then most sweet feeds. It's supposed to be fantastic for horses who get hot off grain.
