Great Garlic Debate

Just found this artical, issued back from Horse & Rider magazine in 2001.

The Great Garlic Debate

Would definitely like to touch up on this subject here!

As much as I would love to keep the flies away from my horses, I'm not sharing my garlic!

I've heard some anecdotal evidence that it helps with flies, and a couple other things, though for the life of me, I can't think what they were right now. But I've also heard just as much anecdotal evidence that it doesn't do anything for them.

So my position is, I'm not going to feed it, especially in light of the damage that it COULD cause. Plus, like I said, I don't want to share my garlic.

Green Broke
A few years back my sister's horse came to live with me & she had him on garlic.
I had known him to be pretty energetic previously but he appeared "ho hum." Nothing we could pinpoint.
I mentioned to her the garlic & anemia but she wanted him on it. After a few easy trail rides where he was dragging himself home she stopped using it & he went back to his usual high energy self.
He's the only horse I personally knew before, during & after garlic administration but it convinced me not to use it.

Interesting, sounds similar to the onion and garlic anemia in dogs!!! I wonder why us humans don't have issues?! Tho, maybe that is why I am so sedate now.. lol too much onion and garlic consumption! :P
