Talking Great News for Cody!

So, starting from the bigining...

We bought Cody about 3 months ago from a woman and her mom trying to downsize their herd. We we went and looked at him he was great! The only thing we saw wrong with him was his feet (they looked like a bad trim, and we asked them, and they said that It was. ) So the next day they dropped him off at our place , and 2 days later a farrier came out to look over his feet. The front right one looked like it was getting ready to founder so we kept a close watch on it. About 2 weeks later we had the farrier out again, and his front left had hoof-rot(sp) but not too bad, so we kept it clean, and did everything the farrier said to do. His front foot however, still looked bad: almost worse, so we planned on him comming out 2 weeks later to put corrective shoes on them, and he told us his back hoof looked ready to founder as well. So, we were just thinking that everything was alright when 2 days ago, Cody started to limp. We were all so scarred because he wasnt eating, he was walking very slow, and laying down A TON. We were paniced and called the farrier and our vet and they both said that we should just put him down! My answer to that was hell no, but after I saw how he was acting, I started to wonder if it was the right thing to do. I was so heart broken, but I still had not given up. I called out Kansas State University vet, and they came to look at him. They gave him a full check up, and looked at all his feet. His front right (the one that has given us the most trouble) had 2 large bruises on the soal. The vets said that it was from a ulscer that must have burst yesterday, and that was why he was in pain. They did some blood work to make sure he didnt have any muscle problems, and gave him a clean bill of health! The only thing wrong with the rest of the feet are that there was a bad trim job, so the soal is overgrown, and we have to wait for the wall to catch up with it so in the meen time he will have corrective shoing on(getting them monday.) I am SO relieved that my big man is going to be okay! This whole ordeal made me realize HOW MUCH I love this horse!
