Guttural Pouch Mycosis

Guttural pouch mycosis has anyone had experience with this? Have you had the surgery done to correct it? Looks like Carolina is going to have to have the surgery. She has a constant light nose bleed and now she has a lump on her throatlatch. It doesn't appear to be causing her any distress, she's eating and drinking fine and when I palpate it she doesn't flinch.

However I'm concerned about her having surgery, I just want her better.

I'm sorry. Noone wants to see their horse go through surgery.

Guttural pouch mycosis is actually very serious. Some horses don't ever recover fully and will need constant care, one little thing could make it flare up again. The surgery will help the bleeding because they will stop the blood flow to the vessels, I hope you caught it early. And you will need antibiotics and anti fungal things.


Are you sure it's GPM? If not treated they could bleed to death..

That's what the vet said it most likely is he's going to scope her to be sure. He said with the swelling and the constant blood nose he's sure it can't be anything else.
