Since I've had Sam, he's had hair problems. He gets dandruffy, and looses the hair on his face. What he doesn't loose completely, thins. He's started to thin along his chest, where his mane lays. It seems to be sweat related and itches.
I braid his mane and keep his forelock up out of his face. Corn oil seemed to improve coat health last year, the hair DOES grow back, but come shedding, then heat season he looses it again.
Should I feed corn oil again? He's nice and fat, healthy. His coat has a shine, but isn't SUPER shiny. Gets bathed and groomed regularly. He's happy and has fresh water 24/7, of course. He and the rest of the herd generally stay up in the shelter mid-afternoon until it cools down later.
Should I just feed him corn oil again? I'd like to avoid 'weight gaining' type stuff, he's already quite hefty, but the oil seems to do the trick.
Annd...weight on the topline ideas? Everyone has pasture 24/7, and is wormed on a regular basis (not due again until August), but my two Foxtrotters are a bit thin on the top. My four year old is rather narrow to begin with, but his back doesn't seemed really filled out enough. Loki (10) isn't super skinny, just not completely filled out, it seems.
Pasture has a lot of clover, a nice quality. Getting it hogged down soon (maybe they'll eat more then?) as they can't eat it down fast enough. It's four horses on a good 7-7.5 acres. Right now, their only running on half of it, I'm using the other bit as a temporary arena to tune up everyone.
