Hay, Pasture, and Happy Horse
Boarding #1. 24 hour pasture. 2 pads of hay 2X. Grain, minerals and electrolytes. Out in a pasture with another horse, far from social/tack up area. Way far out, can't see the horse, horse can't see people.
Boarding #2. Dry Lot of more than 1/2 acre with another horse. Almost unlimited hay. Grain, electrolytes, flax, 1x month sand clear. Near the barn and social area. Sees people all day. Has stall for bad weather and feeding grain.
Bottom line: #1 -24 hour pasture , no people to see. Does not respond to seeing me.
#2, drylot with lots of hay, sees people all day. Nickers to see me.
I wonder if one is psychologically better than the other? I guess that's my concern. Does she care if has access grass all day, or hay all day?
I feel guilty about removing her from 24 hour pasture to a dry lot with hay. Or can she really be more content being around people?
