I have a 14.2 cob mare in very light work. She's 8-9 years old. Where I live it is very, very hard to get hay/haylage that has no ragwort in it as there's a lot of ragwort around and farmers can't guarantee it's totally ragwort free. My mare is overweight which is why it was recommended I feed hay instead of haylage but that was before we moved to a different area. She never eat the hay anyway. I've heard of hay replacers, which are usually fed to older horses. Could my horse be fed one instead of hay? I don't want to take the risk of her getting liver damage. How are they fed and which is best?
