He won't pee during a ride...

I've been meaning to post this...

My boy Dakota absolutely will not pee on a trail-ride... no matter how long we're gone be it fifteen minutes or an all day (8-10 hour) ride.

He poops fine.. we'll be walking along ad he'll go perfect... but he never pees... my mare pees at least once on every ride we go on.

He won't pee with the saddle on his back at all... he waits until I've taken the saddle off before going... and he'll only pee at the barn after I take the saddle off. If I take it off at a friends house, he won't go...

I know that he has to go, too... because it never fails, after every ride as soon as I take the saddle off he drops and whizzes...

What's goin' on? Surely he's not too insecure to let it out and go when he has to...

Its not that uncommon as far as I see it, to pee a horse has to be rather imobile compared to when they go poop, so when being ridden its not the best time for it. Some horses do it some don't.

My horse Banjo never did it while being ridden when I first got him. Ever. But my TB Foxy , who I got a few years after boo , went pee on most of the rides, and pretty much once banjo saw him do it he started doing it too, lol. Now every now and then Banjo will go....not often ..but sometimes.

Is he a less dominant horse? If so maby its to do with that? He doesnt wanna be peeing on what could be some one elses teritory????
Im not sure, but honeslty as long as he goes at some point and its healthy pee I wouldnt worry to much.

My horse Key is REALLY funny about peeing. In the four years I've owned him, he's never peed with me on him!

We went to a show once 3 hours away, and when we got there his stall didn't have shavings in it. He went in the stall, started to pee, STOPPED BECAUSE THERE WERE NO SHAVINGS, and waited until I took him in the arena to pee! He absolutely refuses to pee on any surface that will splash up at him.

He likes to be clean. ;)

Britt, my paint doesn't pee and doesn't poo on trail rides (she's doesn't do it in ring as well even when I work on ground for while). My qh doesn't care at all - if she feels like it she ignores me and do her business. I think it's just personality.

Hm...Lol... I guess I may just be worrying for nothing...

He is a 'less dominant' horse.

My paint gelding that I have owned since he was 5 months old, he is turning 6 in may has only peed infront of me I think like 3 or 4 times. He will not pee with me or the saddle on him and once I take the saddle off and turn him out into the pen he will go where I can't see him (or he thinks I can't see him) and pee. I always thought he just couldnt pee in public :)

My horse ONLY pees in his stall. He won't go outside, or while I ride, or in the crossties. Only in his stall....

My horse won't pee when he has a saddle on either, only in his stall.

Lacey doesn't pee while I'm working her either. She waits until I put her back in her field and then she lets loose, every time. Haha

My mare used to do the same thing, but she wouldn't pee anywhere except in her stall. We go for long trail rides too, and I'm sure she was miserable towards the end. She finally wised up and now she pees as soon as she sees me coming to get her out of her stall, haha.
