If I can get there in time I'll check if the store up the road has any. Getting hay right now

What does your vet say about the colt licking the wound? Why not put the colt in a nice dark place during the day and out after dark? Many of the daytime flies aren't out at night. I'd be careful about putting anything on that he will ingest. Perhaps get a real aloe vera plant and squeeze the juice out of it. It helps healing and won't hurt him if he ingests it. It needs to heal from the depths first.

Ask your vet but Aluspray . It is liquid stitches comes out silver. It will keep the flies out and hopefully detour him from biting

I just won't out and changed his shirt lol... It worked. It's not bleeding today. And the flies couldn't get to it.

Lol it's a solid grey one today. The other made me laugh cause of what it says on it but it was one of my few really stretchy ones xD

    Amazon.com: aluspray

Yup, I'm a big fan of all the AluSprays and AluShield. The aluminum silicate helps dry up the wound while it protects. Great stuff!
