Heart Murmer

I guess it just never ends. Now my horse has been diagnosed with a right side heart murmer. He's only 7 and as far as I know, it was never there before. We're going for an echocardiogram on Thursday, but wanted to know if anyone has any experience with murmers. I'm just trying to set myself up properly for what I can expect for a diagnosis.

I'm sorry I can't give you much information other than to say that my horse has a heart murmur also. It was discovered when he had a massive injury and the vet was listening to his heart. The same vet had listened to his heart all through my guy's life, and it was only detected then...when he was about 15. The vet said that many, many horses have a murmur and live completely normal lives.

For me and my horse, I now try and avoid anything that gets him really riled up! He used to love team penning, but I decided that maybe he loved it too much and I didn't want to see him get that excited!

Wishing you the best with your horse...good luck on the testing....
