    Exclamation Help...

I just bought a 7 yr old pal. The owner said that she could be pregnant ...she looks fairly small, no muscles ...and you can see her butt bone and back bone a little especially when she is wet. I thought at first that maybe it was just her belly starting to drop and pulling on the back bone. Somedays she looks pregnant and then others she don't?? Its so hard to tell with her winter coat.

Im feeding her 3-4 flakes of hay a day plus mare and foal pellets, alfalfa pellets, corn oil, and vitamins.i have also been excerising her daily to build the muscles... is there anything else that I could do to get her weight up I can't stand seeing her so little!

I would have a vet come out and check her for sure. Sounds like you are doing pretty well, just be careful and exercise her lightly. Good luck

You need to have the vet out to determine if she's in foal. Mare care when in foal is more than just feeding.

3-4 flakes doesn't sound enough to me, free choice is best, but at the very least you need to ensure she is getting 1.5-2.5% of her target weight per day in forage. So assuming she should weigh 1000 pounds you need to be feeding 15-25 pounds of long forage.
