Hello,
I reeeeally need some advise and help for my horse!
I have a 15.3hh dutch warmblood, 9 years old. She has always been used for dressage, SJ and XC. I have only had her for 10 weeks and i have competed her at unaffiliated level jumping between 2ft 9 and 3ft 6. She loves jumping and really enjoys working. She lives in and is fed on chaff, one hand full every morning and evening. She is a mare and can be grumpy and will go to bite but hasnt yet! But thats not an issue as once on her she is beautiful! x
2 weeks ago i took her on a 10 mile fun ride and she seemed fine (Sunday), she had a full set of new shoes on wednesday (apparently she hasnt had shoes on the back for ages according to previous owners). I jumped her that evening and she was fine. then on the Sunday she didnt want t ojump at local show (very unlike her!) and appeared 'stiff' on the monday but wasnt too bothered and walked, trotted and cantered fine, bit stiff in hind leg if anything. The following Sunday i competed again at 3ft and 3ft 6, she seemed fine. I wasnt able to get to the stable until the Wednesday, but if anything had been obviously wrong someone at the stables would have rang. On the Wednesday, again she looked 'stiff/lame' in her hind left leg but walk and trot were ok but canter was like a bunny hop. I only let her canter a few strides and stopped her as she was clearly uncomfortable as she bucked prior to cantering with her ears back. It has now been a week since i last competed her and she hasnt improved. I had the physiotherapist out and she said that everything seemed fine and there was nothing obvious. I then had the vet out for vaccinations and had her check her over but said she didnt have time to see her canter. She watched her walking and trotting and confirmed she was lame in her hind left leg. Would being lame cause her to bunny hop? Would it take this long with no improvement? Im having her back shoes off today just to cancel anything out but i dont think she has an infection as she doesnt have hot/warm hoofs and will put her weight on all four feet fine. Im sooooo worried about her! Please help! I have looked into bunny hopping in canter and loads of info about EPSM comes up but seems to be really hard for vets to diagnose, is it worth giving her oil in her feed just in case? I know im probably overly worrying but really just want her better?! x
