Question Hernia?

I recently was given a quarter horse. She's a year and a half and I found out she had a hernia upon birth. They haven't done anything about it and it looks to be pretty big! (About a fist size) Should I be concerned? She doesn't seem to be lame as she loves to run around and such. What can I do to fix this?

I think it depends on the hores and where the hernia is and all that jazz.

My Yearling had a Hernia, and it was taken care of pretty easily. The Vet just took this clamp thinggy - *if my memory serves me right* it is 2 pieces of wood, rounded like a nail file with screws in it - then the hernia was placed inbetween the two wooden pieces and then the clamp was tightened until it was literally squeezing the hernia.

Then that was wrapped up with vet wrap and tape, and we were sent on our way. Eventually, the whole thing fell off and voila - no more hernia.

That was a very long time ago, so I don't know how things are done now.

I would contact your vet and ask a Professional's opinion on the matter :)
