hip injury

I would like to know if anyone can tell me about the injection they give when a horse has a hip injury and isn't sound without this injection. Like what is it? Cortizone? I am told it is the same as the hock injection that is given. I have a great vet school here but its 3 hours away so if a local vet can give it that would be great. Does anyone know if that is possible to get the shot local? I would really appreciate any information you may have. Thanks

Yes, cortizone can help, and I'm pretty sure most vets can administer it. I'm not familiar with the stuff though, so I could be completely wrong.
What was the injury? Maybe something else could help?

All I can comment on is when my husband gets cortizone shots in his elbow from an old injury. It hurts like blue blazes when he gets the shot and for a few days after but it usually helps him out for a long time. He only needs one every few years. I'm not sure if its the same in horses but I imagine it is. You might check out www.thehorse.com it has great medical information

Maybe instead of the injection you could try bute? But I don't know about the whole injury thing.
