Horse Doing Uncharacteristic Things...

The other day my I was grooming my horse and then he randomly started tossing his head around. He would fling it around some then stop, then he'd start up again. Then yesterday he did it a little while I was riding. Also while I was riding he would swish his tail or kick out a little when he started cantering. I was at a show so I don't know if it was because he was nervous about being there (because he always gets super nervous at shows) or something else. Anyone have any ideas?

I am no expert at this, but my guess would be pain. Were you grooming in the same spot both times when he threw his head? Were you riding with a different saddle than normal? Anything else that was different?

When he was flinging his head around while I was grooming him, he would do it even when I wasn't touching him so I don't think that had anything to do with it. The saddle thing may have something to do with the riding becuase I normally ride with one saddle at home but I use a different one at shows. Thanks, I had forgotten about that.
