Horse losing hair

I noticed about 4 days ago my horse started losing hair on her breast. I think it might be from the heat because she is still shedding her winter coat. Could also be the flies or gnats. What do you guys think? Anything I can do?

Looks a lot like the nasty gnat things we have around here. I put udder balm on the area everyday, that seems to help keep the flies away and heals the little bite marks they leave, which allows the hair to grow back.


It is available at any farm store, in the cow section usually. Its fairly cheap and works very well, not much is needed either.

Other than that, you could always invest in a fly sheet or try fly spray.
