This past spring our pony Peanut was diagnosed with Heaves. He is 13 yrs old. I've owned him several years and he has never had any breathing issues before. We did a round or Dex and albuterol (i think) and that cleared him up pretty good. Now I give him MSM daily as it is an anti inflamitory so that helps the airway a bit. When I feel he's breathing a bit harder I give him some ani-hist(over the counter antihistamine). This seems to work for him so far. If needed I would do a round of dex again, but I feel it is better to try to control the problem with simpler remedys. If nothing else worked I would certainly do a bit of dex every other day. Hang in there, you are not alone. :)
