I'm posting this for my friend. Please, note she is NOT the owner of the horses, but trying her best to get them out of there before they go to the auction (she also has number of horses she took from that place while back to give them a chance). The place is in Waynesboro, PA, and it's about 70 miles away from me. I posted number of pics of my paint on the forum. She's from the same place (I got her out of abusive situation 2.5 years back). And YES, I think it's ridiculous to produce so many horses "just because", and then they face such a horrible end.
The owner of the place (and horses) unexpectedly died couple weeks back. There are 22 horses (including 7 studs) left, and his wife/kids are not interested in keeping them. They try to sell some of them before sending the herd to the auction (prices are not set, so any offer will be considered). Most of the horses old enough to be started under saddle (and I was told there are couple very lovely looking babies - appy/paint cross).
I know the place and being completely honest I think most of them have very limited handling (if any at all), which means all (or almost all) will be candidates for the meat people. On positive side I know number of horses taken from there, which are shown successfully.
If anyone interested, please contact me privately, so I can provide information to contact my friend.
