My daughter's 10 year old AQHA gelding needs a joint suplement. We just got him and were told based on xrays that he likely had an old injury (fully healed) and now some arthritis in his right hind leg. We have been told to put him on MSM but when I look online there are 20 different brands of supplements with MSM alone or together with Glucosamine and Chondroiten. Price is a factor but we also want to put him on something good since he is a young horse with good potential.
I would get something with msm, gluocosamine and chondroitin, this link is helpful as it will list how much of each is in the supplement and how much it costs to feed Joint Supplements at a Glance
I have my mare on these Majesty's Flex Wafers I switched on recommendation from another forum member. I just switched from a powdered form. So far so good. She's more accepting of these than the powder.
I have gad great luck with both Corta-Flex and Acti-Flex 4000 in their liquid forms; I buy both in the gallon jugs for better pricing. bigdweb.com has good prices on gallons. I sometimes will add extra pure MSM to horses with joint pain/stiffness during cold weather or hard riding. MSM by itself is pretty cheap, about $10 a month to feed a horse a 10,000 mg dose daily.
