So I went to the farm I board my mare and filly at today. I hadn't been there since Saturday.
I went into the paddock that Sonya and Rumour are in, and said hi to Sonya. I inspected her for any scrapes/lumps/cuts, like I always do, and was horrified when I saw this:
Now, Sonya ripped when foaling Rumour, who is now 9 weeks old. I had the vet stitch her up the day of, and the rip was completley healed. I am not sure what day this happened as the Barn did not call me. Which makes me suspicios, because it is pretty hard not to notice the rip.
I am wondering if this could have been caused by a stallion? There are several stallions on the property. I'm not sure how else this could have happened, since her tail should protect that area.
I am pretty sure Sonya was in heat these last few days, because the timing is right, which would make it a possibility that she is pregnant. If she is she will have to get an abortion, since I cannot afford her, Rumour, and another foal.
We are hopefully going to be moving Sonya and Rumour to another farm tomorrow if the new barn calls us back.
So, do you guys have any suggestions as to what I can put on this, and should I call the vet? I am not sure what day this happened, so I don't know if it is too late for stitches.
This rip almost looks worst than the rip she got when foaling.
Here are a few other pictures of the rip:
