Happy was a slaughter rescue from March. He is a 10 yr old Saddlebred (I think he is a cross, but since he came from the Amish and they are not much for crosses, maybe not).
He is about 16.1 hh and 1150 lbs according to the weight tape.
We feed 2 scoops strategy and 1 scoop rice bran twice a day and about 40 lbs of hay daily.
He is currently stalled except for short turn outs in the round pen when the weather permits, while we fix our fence, and that might be contributing to his overall condition - as he is happiest, as most are, on 24/7 turn out - and so he has lost overall muscle from being up.
Anyway, I can't feel ribs at all through his coat, but he just looks too thin to me, or am I just wanting plump when he is at an okay weight?
His teeth were just done and he does not need wormed and is healthy all around according to our vet. The vet wasn't concerned about his weight, but said he'd callhim a 4 on the body score scale a month ago, but he is a big rounder since then as we upped the hay.
