Exclamation How to keep his weight on?

I show in the local 4-H, and you have to keep the horse on the fairgrounds for the stall shift you sign up for, which is about 3 days.

Every year, when 4-H rolls around, Comet will be in great shape and have a good weight. But once he stays at the 4-H barn, he drops a ton of weight. (I don't know how it's possible, since it's only about 3 days...but he does!)

I feed him TONS (wayyy more than he gets at home...he lives in the pasture and only is in a stall the night before a show), but he still loses a lot.

Is there anything I could do to keep his weight okay? I don't know what a standard supplement would do, because again, it's only a few days, but is there something I could add to his food? I don't want to give him too much grain because he gets really hyper. He's in the stall after the show is over, so he doesn't really get exercise unless I take him out to a pen and ride him (and there's strict rules about when you can and can't ride frequent rides can't happen).

Any ideas?

Riders aren't 16 and pregnant. Riders are 16 and arthritic.

Need more details on what 'heaps' you feed. Free choice hay is one thing I'd consider a 'must'. But I'm guessing stress may play a big part, so speaking to your vet about a sedative or such may be worth considering.

Mind you, if he is getting a healthy diet & not going hungry, I also wouldn't worry about him dropping weight over 3 days, as he's not going to have lost a huge amount.
