I show in the local 4-H, and you have to keep the horse on the fairgrounds for the stall shift you sign up for, which is about 3 days.
Every year, when 4-H rolls around, Comet will be in great shape and have a good weight. But once he stays at the 4-H barn, he drops a ton of weight. (I don't know how it's possible, since it's only about 3 days...but he does!)
I feed him TONS (wayyy more than he gets at home...he lives in the pasture and only is in a stall the night before a show), but he still loses a lot.
Is there anything I could do to keep his weight okay? I don't know what a standard supplement would do, because again, it's only a few days, but is there something I could add to his food? I don't want to give him too much grain because he gets really hyper. He's in the stall after the show is over, so he doesn't really get exercise unless I take him out to a pen and ride him (and there's strict rules about when you can and can't ride them...so frequent rides can't happen).
