I have a wormer question?

I just wormed our gelding withzimecterin gold been having a hard time with strongyles. I was wondering does the wormer kill the worms are just help to pass them? The day after the wormer we counted 15 in poop and everyone was still alive. Thanks Dan......

Honestly I have no idea but that many worms in your horse's poop I would get the stool analyzed from a vet lab and get their recommendation on how to get rid of them! There could be more than one type. Certain wormers kill a particular set of worms better than others.

That's my recommendation :/

It kills the worms it has contact with. It's not a fast kill but the worms lose their ability to absorb nutrients, so they essentially 'lose their place at the feed trough' & pass in the manure, many still alive. However, any eggs not yet hatched inside your horse won't be effected so that is why you need to deworm again to break the cycle.

They are dying. You will see them eliminated still wiggling in heavily loaded horses.

The Z Gold does not touch the ensysted strongles so to really get a handle on them you need to do the 5 day Power Pak or Quest.

The regular Quest and the Quest Plus will get the encysted stongyles that other dewormers can't get.

The only thing that will get the encysted worms is Quest or Quest Plus and the 5 day Panacure Power Pack.

The Zimecterin Gold that you used is a very good dewormer though, it gets tapeworms. Quest Plus also gets tapeworms.

Ivermectin does not kill the worms, it paralyzes them. If they can't move, they can't eat & they die. Just some FYI.
